Leave a Lasting Legacy

For those who believe in the enduring power of music, one of the most meaningful ways to support the Hunterdon Symphony is by including a gift in your will or estate plans. These legacy gifts help ensure that live orchestral music continues to enrich our community for generations to come.

A planned gift is more than a donation — it’s a reflection of your values, your love of the arts, and your desire to share beauty and inspiration with others, even beyond your lifetime.

Such gifts should be directed to "Hunterdon Musical Arts," which is the legal entity that the Symphony is part of.

Ways to Give Through Your Estate

There are several thoughtful ways to include Hunterdon Musical Arts in your estate plans:

1. Bequests in Your Will or Trust

You can designate a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after other gifts are made. This is one of the simplest and most common ways to make a lasting contribution.

Sample language: “I give [specific amount or percentage] to Hunterdon Musical Arts, a nonprofit organization located in Flemington, New Jersey, for its general purposes.”

2. Beneficiary Designations

You may also name Hunterdon Musical Arts as a beneficiary of:

  • Retirement accounts (such as an IRA or 401(k))

  • Life insurance policies

  • Investment or bank accounts (via a “payable on death” or “transfer on death” designation)

This typically requires only a simple form from your financial institution - no need to change your will.

3. Charitable Trusts or Donor -Advised Funds

More complex estate planning options, such as charitable remainder trusts or gifts from donor - advised funds, may offer tax benefits while supporting the Symphony’s future. Speak with your advisor to explore these options.

4. Stocks and Bonds

You may also make a donation of stocks and bonds. Such donations may also offer tax benefits to you, and Hunterdon Musical Arts benefits as well from a stepped-up cost basis. Speak with your financial advisor about making such donations.

If you are thinking about giving a legacy donation and have additional questions, please feel free to contact us, or contact Orchestra Manager Barbara Volkov directly at 908-391-3001. We would be happy to speak with you or your advisor in confidence about your intentions.
